Ballard. June 15, 2008.
Edith Macefield died at home, in the little house she would not sell. She was 86. She had asked for no funeral and no flowers; she wanted people to give to the Humane Society instead.
Her death made newspapers across the United States and Canada, and as far away as Britain and Asia. The headline used most often was simple: The Woman Who Wouldn't Sell.
