For a couple of minutes, the two men talked carefully, asking tentative questions. Then Jim Lewis asked the one that mattered.
"Are you my brother?"
"Yep," said Jim Springer.
Dayton, February 9, 1979. Lewis stands at his brother's door, looking at his own face.
"We both said the same thing," he would remember. "We didn't know what to say."
So they start comparing their lives. The first matches come fast.
As boys, both had a dog. Both had named it Toy.
Both had grown up with an adopted brother. Both brothers were named Larry.
