Dogecoin launched in 2013 with Kabosu's sideways glance as its logo. The image later became the subject of a $4 million NFT sale.
But Kabosu's story wasn't only about money or internet fame.
Her owner also turned Kabosu's worldwide popularity into charitable support for children overseas. Through organizations including World Vision Japan, donations connected to the NFT charity were used to repair schools in Iraq and build classrooms and other facilities in South Sudan. Support also reached children in Vietnam.
In the schools, Kabosu's name and photograph were placed on commemorative plaques. A dog whose face had traveled around the internet was now connected to children studying thousands of miles from Japan.
