As the Facebook post was shared, the decorating spread from the Begnauds' subdivision into other neighborhoods in the area.
On October 4, a local radio station reported on it and asked listeners who decorated for Lane to get in touch. The next day, TV station KATC ran a story. Strangers, the station reported, were now showing their support too.
Candice Kretzer, who lives near Lane's subdivision, told KATC that people had been moved by what the family was going through: "we just wanted to make him smile."
