Nick's Family

The rescued children and their families came to call themselves "Nick's family." In 2003, Queen Elizabeth II knighted him, and he became Sir Nicholas Winton.

He died in July 2015, at the age of 106. "I was there to save children," he once said.

In 1988, a TV host asked who owed their life to Nicholas Winton, and a room full of people stood up.

Today, an estimated 6,000 people are alive because of the children he rescued. They could all stand up, too.
