On March 14, 1939, the first group of children left Prague. There were 20 of them.
The next day, German troops marched into the city.
Winton kept going. Through the spring and summer, trains carried children through Germany to Britain, where families were waiting for them. One by one, the names in his records became children who were safe.
By August, 669 children had made it out. One more train was ready to go, and it was the biggest yet.
