Sixteen Years Old, and Already a Mother

On July 10, 1998, sixteen-year-old Shanara Mobley gave birth to a healthy baby girl at a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. She named her Kamiyah. It was an ordinary delivery in an ordinary hospital room — the kind of day that, for most families, becomes a birthday to celebrate every year after. Shanara had no reason to think this one would be any different. She could not have known that within hours, someone else would walk into that room with a different plan for her daughter.
