The Top, at 31
They reached the summit of Mount Fuji. Twelve years after a scrum collapsed in Sugadaira, Hideyuki Sugita, now 31, stood at the top of Japan's highest mountain with his old teammates and the coach who had promised they would all go together. He had been told he would never walk. He had cut these people off. They had kept calling, and about 80 of them came.
Later, asked what he remembered from the top, he did not talk about the view.
