Oriental Land still owns and runs the parks, and still pays Disney for the license. Its largest shareholder is one of its founders, Keisei Electric Railway, with about 22 percent. Disney holds no stake.
When Tokyo Disneyland turned 40 in April 2023, Disney's CEO, Bob Iger, flew in for the ceremony. He came as the head of the company that licenses the park, not the one that owns it.
Takahashi, the company's only real worker in 1960, went on to become its president.
By January 2026, 900 million visits had been made to the two parks. Every one of them took place on what was once shallow sea off a fishing town, until a patient man with a sake bottle talked the fishermen into letting it go.
