An Old Case in a Will

Philip Johnson died of cancer in 2011, at 58, a year before Totenberg. He had never made a name for himself as a musician.

In his will, he left his former wife an old violin case. It was sealed with a combination lock.

About four years later, she and her boyfriend were cleaning house. They came across the case and decided to break the lock.

Inside was a violin, and inside the violin was a label with a famous name.
