Not Hers — and Not a Woman's

In the fall of 2013, the tests failed to link Cathy Woods to any of the evidence. The cigarette butt found beside Michelle's body carried DNA from a man. Investigators sent the male profile to the FBI's national DNA database. No match came back. The search was checked against every profile in the system, and none of them fit. For months, whoever had smoked that Marlboro in the garage was a genetic profile without a name.
