The theft investigation was closed as unsolved.
From late October 2021, the painting went on show for five months at the Museum of Rome. Then it returned to the Ricci Oddi gallery in Piacenza.
How long it sat behind that metal panel and the curtain of ivy, and why, is still a mystery.
Now it is back inside the building, where visitors can see the woman looking over her shoulder, and know about the other woman hidden beneath her.
