In December 2024, in London, McCartney played the Höfner live on stage. His old bandmate from the Beatles, Ringo Starr, joined him that night, along with Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones.
It was the same bass a young musician had bought in Hamburg in 1961 for £30. It had been heard on the Beatles' first records, stolen from a van in 1972 and found in an attic in 2023.
“And once I bought it,” McCartney had said, “I fell in love with it.”
