One Word, Sent Back Across the Ocean

After the demonstration, Frank sent a telegram back to Dorothy Eustis in Switzerland. It contained just one word: SUCCESS. That single word carried an entire year behind it — the magazine article Frank had read, the ocean he'd crossed to reach her, the dog he'd learned to trust completely, and the widespread doubt he had just disproven in front of a crowd of reporters on a New York street. It wasn't only a private message between two people. It was confirmation, for the first time in America, that a blind person and a trained dog really could work as a team — safely, publicly, and repeatably. Eustis had backed an idea that, until that telegram arrived, was still just a theory.
It became something much bigger than either of them expected.
