Not the World's First Guide Dog — But America's First School

Frank and Eustis went on to establish an organization to train guide dogs and their handlers in the United States: The Seeing Eye, founded in 1929 in Nashville before later moving to New Jersey. It became the first school of its kind in the country. Guide dogs themselves weren't new — they had already been trained in parts of Europe. What was new was proving, publicly and repeatedly, that the partnership could work for Americans too. That proof became an institution.
