Among the stranded guests was David Landsel, a travel editor at the New York Post who happened to be on vacation in Japan. He spent the night in a restaurant at the resort, Cafe Portofino.
Through the night, he reported, cast members came around with snacks. In the morning, they served a hot breakfast. Another guest, at Tokyo Disneyland, listed rain jackets, plastic bags, hand warmers and food.
Both kept coming back to the same thing: how calm the cast members stayed. Staff kept spirits up and comforted the youngest guests, long after their shifts would normally have ended.
They had been through the earthquake too. As one writer later noted, they surely wanted to get home and see their own families.
