Out of concern for morale, rescuers had at first held back the worst case: months underground, with extraction close to Christmas. Psychologists believed the men should have a role in their own fate, and on August 25 the miners were briefed in full on the timeline and the complexity of the rescue plans. The mining minister later reported that they took the news very well.
