Chile's health minister compared the men's situation to that of astronauts spending months on the International Space Station. On August 31, a NASA team arrived: two physicians, a psychologist and an engineer. Doctors and psychologists worked with the rescuers to keep the miners busy and mentally focused. One NASA specialist observed that the Chileans were, in effect, writing the book as they went.
