September 11, 2014: Out on Bond

In September 2014, a Washoe County judge vacated Woods' conviction and granted her a new trial. On September 11, she was released on bond. She had been in custody since 1979, roughly 35 years, and the National Registry of Exonerations would come to list her as the longest-ever wrongfully incarcerated woman in U.S. history. But she was not yet cleared. The murder charge still stood, and prosecutors could put her on trial a third time.
