Nine Months of Innocence

Cathy Woods died on July 15, 2021, nine months after Nevada declared her innocent. She had spent some 35 years in custody because of words spoken in a psychiatric hospital — words that, by the detectives' own account, contained nothing the newspapers hadn't already printed. The evidence that cleared her was collected on the first night and kept the whole time. It needed a science that did not yet exist, and a letter she could not write alone.
