She was in remarkably good condition. The only real damage was a small mark on one side, perhaps from being pulled out of the frame in a hurry.

“The strangest thing is that the painting is in excellent condition,” said a local council member.
The gallery's vice president, Laura Bonfanti, pointed to the wax seals and stamps on the back of the canvas. “It appears to be the original,” she said.
