The Judge Said the Tragedy Might Have Been Avoided

On September 26, 1983, the Maebashi District Court sentenced him to life in prison. Prosecutors had asked for the death penalty. In December 1984, the Tokyo High Court rejected the appeal, and the life sentence became final.
