According to accounts of the case, he killed the bank collector and hid his body in the boiler room's heavy-oil tank. He took the money the collector was carrying.
He told police he used it to pay off his loans and gambled away the remaining ¥1.5 million.
He could not stop gambling. Later, he tried to embezzle from an employer, failed and was fired, and his wife divorced him.
