In Switzerland, Frank was paired with a German Shepherd named Kiss — a dog already trained to guide the blind. Frank renamed her Buddy. It was one thing to read about a guide dog in a magazine article back home. It was another to stand in a foreign country and put a leash in the hand of a dog he'd never met, and trust her to lead him somewhere he couldn't see.
